Godspeed Sizing and Fit: Choosing Correctly

The most expensive mistake with this label is sizing, and the reason is structural rather than careless. Because the house silhouette is boxy and oversized-relaxed, there is volume built in before you choose anything, and the instincts you normally trust stop applying. Once you work out that you ordered wrong, the size you needed may not exist, because production runs are small. Given hoodies observed between $200 and $270 in 2026 market estimates, sets from $155 to $360, denim near $250 and cargo pants around $350, an error is not a small sum. Starting from body measurements in inches and centimetres, the guide then covers each category. Read it with a tape measure in hand.

Measure Yourself First

Measurements off your own body, not from a garment already in your wardrobe, underpin every sound sizing decision. Chest and natural waist do most of the work, leaving sleeve and inseam for the rest. At the fullest point of the chest, tape level under the arms and one finger of slack so nothing compresses. Measure the waist above the hip bone and below the ribs, not at the line where jeans usually sit. Work over a thin shirt or bare skin, because heavyweight fleece can add two inches, or five centimetres, of false reading. Because product information circulates in both units, record both, rather than converting under pressure.

  1. Chest: around the fullest point, tape kept level, one finger of slack.
  2. The natural waist: sit the tape above the hip bone and below the ribs, stomach relaxed.
  3. Sleeve length: from the centre back of the neck, over the shoulder, to the wrist bone.
  4. Length of the body: highest point of the shoulder down to where you want the hem.
  5. The inseam: measure barefoot from the crotch seam to the floor if you want stacked legs.

A Reference Table

The table below converts body measurements into a starting letter size, with one caveat attached. Treat them as general body-measurement bands, not an official godspeed-newyork chart published by the brand, good for a defensible starting point but not a guarantee. A product page listing its own garment measurements always beats a general table like this. Body measurements describe you and garment numbers describe the piece laid flat, so keep the two apart. The final column covers how each band reads once the boxy house cut is applied, something a standard chart never tells you. Read across, not down, starting with chest for tops and waist for bottoms.

Size label Chest (in) Chest (cm) Waist (in) Waist (cm) How it behaves in a boxy cut
S 35 to 37 89 to 94 28 to 30 71 to 76 Easy on a slim frame; short in the body
M 38 to 40 97 to 102 31 to 33 79 to 84 Wide across the chest, nearly true oversized
L 41 to 43 104 to 109 34 to 36 86 to 91 Full oversized look; sleeves sit long
XL 44 to 46 112 to 117 37 to 39 94 to 99 Wide indeed; length grows slower than width
2XL 47 to 49 119 to 124 40 to 42 102 to 107 Dominated by volume, so size up only for length
3XL 50 to 52 127 to 132 43 to 45 109 to 114 The widest it gets; check shoulder drop carefully

What A Boxy Cut Really Changes

Boxy means cut wide relative to length, which is a different thing from just being large. Chest and body length grow together on a conventional tee, keeping the proportions roughly constant. Since a boxy cut adds width faster than length, each step up makes the piece squarer rather than longer. That is why sizing up for length on a boxy godspeed shirt produces a much wider garment and barely any more length. Practically speaking, body length is the limiting number for taller wearers, not chest. Start with body length and accept the width attached to it if you are over roughly six foot two, or 188 centimetres.

The Size-Down Question

Sizing down is the question that comes up most with god speed clothing, and the answer depends on the look you are after. If you want the silhouette the brand designed, use your true size from the table and leave it alone. Where a normal relaxed fit beats an obviously oversized one, one size down usually achieves it on tops. The cost is length in the body and the sleeve, acceptable on a tee and obvious on a hoodie. Sizing down fails on outerwear, because a jacket cut for layering becomes unwearable over fleece once a size is removed. One size, tops only, and always deliberately: that is the rule for sizing down.

Hoodies and Heavyweight Fleece

Heavy fabric alters sizing in ways light material does not, and a godspeed hoodie shows it most clearly. Heavy fleece stands away from the body rather than draping, so it keeps its own shape and adds bulk beyond what it measures. A hoodie in your true size will therefore look larger than a lightweight sweatshirt with identical flat measurements. Pullovers and zip-through versions behave differently too, since a zip stiffens the front and reins in how much the body billows. Buy the fit you want and wash cold to keep it, because fleece shrinks slightly if washed hot. Where the hoodie will live under a jacket, size it to your body, because the outerwear is already generous.

Tees, and What to Layer With Them

As the most forgiving category, the tee is the cheapest place to learn the sizing. 2026 market estimates observed them between $128 and $200, most around $150 to $170, sleeveless near $170 and long sleeve near $200. The boxy cut shows most clearly here because nothing in the fabric weight hides it, so the shoulder seam falls beyond the shoulder point on purpose. Layered and long sleeve styles sit slightly closer through the body than the regular short sleeve. Sleeveless pieces open wider at the armhole than most people expect, so dropping a size is worth thinking about there. Buying two sizes of godspeed shirts to compare is cheaper than guessing wrong on a $350 cargo pant.

Bottoms: Sweatpants, Cargo Pants and Denim

Bottoms follow the waist column rather than the chest column, and they bring leg length in as a second variable. Relaxed in the cut, sweatpants in a matching set generally align with true waist size without adjustment. Cargo pants and premium denim are wider through the thigh and close with a flared or stacked hem, built to pool over the shoe rather than break cleanly. If a pair looks too long out of the bag, it is usually correct, and shortening them destroys the shape the pattern was built around. Denim observed around $250 is garment washed, and washed cotton relaxes at the waist with wear, so the tighter of the two options often wins. The top and the bottom of a set deserves its own size.

Jackets: Varsity, Moto and Puffer

Scarcity, not construction is why outerwear leaves the least room for error. The F.T.D and Chrome Seduction varsity jackets were stated as runs of 200 units with numbered authenticity tags, so an exchange is not a realistic backup plan. Neither vegan leather nor vegan suede stretches, so on a wool-bodied varsity with those sleeves, a snug sleeve on day one is a snug sleeve forever. Wool bodies are already cut for a layer beneath, so use your true size instead of going up one for fleece. Shoulder fit decides whether a leather moto works at all, and the material gives even less. Puffers are the exception where a slightly larger size is defensible, since insulation compresses.

The Mistakes Worth Avoiding

The same handful of assumptions, rather than bad luck, are behind most sizing failures. Without checking whether it was cut boxy or conventional, people benchmark against something already in the wardrobe. Sizing up for length on a cut where length barely moves, or sizing down for a cleaner line on a jacket that needs the room, are both common. Some measure over a thick layer, or put the tape at the trouser line, and end up a full size out. Ordering both halves of a set in the same size by reflex leaves the top right and the bottoms wrong. Almost all of this disappears if you run the checks below.

  • The body, never a favourite hoodie, is what gets measured, recording both inches and centimetres.
  • Ahead of any general table, find the flat measurements on the product page itself.
  • Before you pick a size, decide between intended oversized and relaxed.
  • Let body length be the limiting number when you are tall, not chest width.
  • Never size down on wool or vegan-leather outerwear; there is no give to recover.
  • Each half of a set need their own size, and check both are in stock.
